Bible Study
Sacred Scripture is the inspired word of God, the collection of sacred books that hand on the truth of Revelation in written form. The Bible reveals that God fulfilled his saving plan of love to free us from sin.
The beliefs of Catholics are found in the Bible in two ways: explicit and implicit. Some teachings of the Catholic Church are easily found in the Bible. For example, that Jesus is the Son of God, that he called Twelve Apostles to follow him, that he healed, forgave sins, proclaimed the Kingdom of God present in his person, and that he suffered, died and rose again for our sins, are all very explicit in the Bible. The Holy Spirit makes known the full meaning of these events in and through the Church, and makes the power of these events effective throughout history and in our lives today.
Some beliefs are more hidden. Love loves to hide secrets, so that when we find them we are enraptured even more by their beauty. The mystery of Jesus is so profound that sometimes you have to look closely to see all the parts that he has made known. The Holy Spirit has hidden some dimensions of the mission of Jesus in the Bible. The truths of faith are clarified by the Tradition through the Magisterium, the Church’s authentic teaching office. These truths never contradict the Word of God in Scripture, but serve to articulate its truth more clearly.
The Holy Spirit helps us to find and to articulate these mysteries. The teaching on the Trinity, that is, that there are three Persons in one God, is found in the Bible in the many instances where Jesus speaks about his relationship with the Father and the Holy Spirit. The terms that the Church needed to express this mystery were given to her over several hundred years by the same Holy Spirit that inspired the Gospel writers as they wrote of the words of Jesus that revealed the mystery in the first place. The Church’s teachings about the Blessed Mother, the saints, the role of virtue and holiness are found in the Bible implicitly in varying degrees.
Bible Study has become a very effective way to help Catholics uncover the true meaning of Scripture. The Bible is at the heart of our faith and our relationship with God. It is the living Word of God, where our Father meets with us and lovingly speaks to us. Through guided study, one is able to grow in the knowledge and appreciation for the written Word of God such that it reminds us of our beliefs and inspires our devotions.

La Sagrada Escritura es la palabra inspirada de Dios, la colección de libros sagrados que dan la verdad de la Revelación en forma escrita. La Biblia revela que Dios cumplió su plan de amor salvador para liberarnos del pecado. Las creencias de los católicos se encuentran en la Biblia de dos maneras: explícitas e implícitas. Algunas enseñanzas de la Iglesia Católica se encuentran fácilmente en la Biblia. Por ejemplo, que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, que llamó a Doce Apóstoles a seguirlo, que sanó, perdonó pecados, proclamó el Reino de Dios presente en su persona, y que sufrió, murió y resucitó por nuestros pecados, son todos muy explícitos en la Biblia. El Espíritu Santo da a conocer el sentido completo de estos acontecimientos en y a través de la Iglesia, y hace que el poder de estos acontecimientos sea eficaz a través de la historia y en nuestras vidas hoy. Algunas creencias están más ocultas. El amor ama esconder secretos, para que cuando los encontremos, estemos envueltos aún más por su belleza. El misterio de Jesús es tan profundo que a veces hay que mirar de cerca para ver todas las partes que él ha dado a conocer. El Espíritu Santo ha escondido algunas dimensiones de la misión de Jesús en la Biblia. Las verdades de la fe son aclaradas por la Tradición a través del Magisterio, la auténtica oficina de enseñanza de la Iglesia. Estas verdades nunca contradicen la Palabra de Dios en la Escritura, sino que sirven para articular su verdad con mayor claridad. El Espíritu Santo nos ayuda a encontrar y a articular estos misterios. La enseñanza sobre la Trinidad, es decir, que hay tres personas en un solo Dios, se encuentra en la Biblia en los muchos casos en que Jesús habla de su relación con el Padre y el Espíritu Santo. Los términos que la Iglesia necesitaba expresar este misterio fueron dados a ella durante varios cientos de años por el mismo Espíritu Santo que inspiró a los escritores del Evangelio como escribieron de las palabras de Jesús que revelaron el misterio en primer lugar. Las enseñanzas de la Iglesia sobre la Santísima Madre, los santos, el papel de la virtud y la santidad se encuentran implícitamente en diversos grados. El estudio bíblico se ha convertido en una manera muy eficaz de ayudar a los católicos a descubrir el verdadero significado de la Escritura. La Biblia está en el corazón de nuestra fe y nuestra relación con Dios. Es la Palabra viviente de Dios, donde nuestro Padre se reúne con nosotros y nos habla amorosamente. A través del estudio guiado, uno es capaz de crecer en el conocimiento y aprecio por la Palabra escrita de Dios, de tal manera que nos recuerda nuestras creencias e inspira nuestras devociones.
